What is Required?
To become a volunteer tutor for Literacy Genesee/Orleans,
a person must attend our Basic Reading and/or English
as a Second Language Workshop. This training is presented
by members of a trained work shop team who are first and
foremost, trained tutors using live demonstrations of tutoring
techniques.
Including Orientation, the workshop is approximately
15 hours long and is presented during one,
three hour and two, six hour sessions.
Commitment
We ask each volunteer to commit him or herself
to one year of tutoring. We hope that
the experience will be so rewarding that
the volunteer will wish to continue beyond
this commitment.
Cost
To help defray the cost of conducting workshops, participants are asked to pay a $25 fee. However, if payment of this fee is a financial burden, special arrangements may be made with LGO staff on a confidential basis.
The first step in becoming a volunteer tutor is to complete the Volunteer Intake. Doing so puts you on our list to be notified of upcoming workshops. Just use the link to the left, print the intake, complete and return to our Batavia office. |
